INTERVIEW WITH MATTHIAS HUES
(Interview by www.Bolo-Yeung.com,April 2008)

What is your martial arts background?
Matthias Hues: WELL IT IS Taekwondo but later I found kickboxing to be my favorite art form.It seemed to be more suited for
me since I can kick high and strong but also love to punch,if I be younger I would for sure train for cage fighting UFC,
I love this form of fighting since it is cooperating all styles. It is the most real fighting out there. as far as I am concerned. But now
I am to old for this hard sport,I mean who can fight like this at 49 years.Ha ha !!
"No Retreat,No Surrender 2" was your first important film. What memories do you keep of working with director Cory Yuen
and super kicker Jang Lee Hwang?
Matthias Hues: AMAZING times, theses guys are the best and real good in what they do, I mean you just keep your eyes and
ears open , listen and learn as much you can, it is a treat of one in a lifetime chance to be involved with them both.
In "TC 2000" you met Bolo Yeung and you fought against him.How long did it take to shoot the fight scene? Would you have
any memories about Bolo and Jalal Merhi?
Matthias Hues: BOLO YEUNG was great !!! What a nice cool guy he is and was during our fight,he is calm and knows his stuff,
doesn't get to excited about it and just is way professional, very low key, just delivers like a pro, it was an easy fight we shot it
very fast, a few hours max, not much to it, really, I mean we would have done more but it wasn't the main scene in the film.
I see Bolo in the gym in Gold's a lot, or wait I mean I did see him there a lot and his son who looks like him, he was always a
quiet strong force and well respected.
Jalal Merhi is living his martial arts kung fu every day, he is very good at it and has a keen talent to bring the best fighters
together and make great films for what is given in terms of money and the overall look.
he loves his job with all he's got, his passion is amazing and I love to be around it.
You are a strong and muscular guy.How much do you train?
Matthias Hues: OH it is just part of my life, you train all your life, every day, even on your vacation, it never stops, it is sort of
your investment into it all, then suddenly you love it so much a day off seems strange, but you do learn how to listen to your
body and take breaks if you feel you need them to not have it work against you. in order to grow you need some rest as well,
the same for fighting, rest up and go back full force.
What movie genre are you most like and why?
Matthias Hues: I LOVE the martial art 80's and 90's movies, the one like Cyborg or Universal Soldier, in our days there is too
much special effects and wire work, but then again I loved the Transporter, or even WalkingTall with the Rock, all in all it really is
the key that the actor is believable and is a true hero you actually believe he can do all this stuff for real.
What is your dream role?
Matthias Hues: I WROTE a script like Transporter meet Mr.& Mrs.Smith, I am working hard to get it produced and see it as
great action flick in the genre I described above. cross your fingers I am working hard to get this on the screen !!
You acted as an alien in "Dark Angel".What you think about this film?
Matthias Hues: THIS was my favorite film so far and that one too I am about to get it going as a sequel, I just finished the script
and meet investors. This film really gets my blood boiling as I have so many stunts in it I hope I can even pull it off!
What you think about digital special effects in action movies?
Matthias Hues: YOU know if it is done to serve the story like 10 000 BC I think it really helps, if the film needs it to be cool I loos
interest fast,"I am a legend" had great special effects that the film really needed as well, so it worked amazing and was just a joy
to watch, so there I love it.
What are your plans for the future? Can you tell us about your new project?
Matthias Hues: WELL like I said I do hope I get theses two films of the ground, Dark Angel and The Cleaner, I really need theses
two to happen, because it is the next step to be in films I really love being in.
I love film and I think I know what the audience loves as well, at least some of them and I always talk to everybody around get
their feedback and feel most want to see real tough action, real life style, like the end fight Dolph and Van Damme had it in
Universal soldier, the real dirty and cinematic great clash of two super hero's going for it.......plus a story you want to see being
told with some human elements in it, like the professional.
After all we all love the movies, our only chance to get to a different place for two hours, being so drawn in to it we forget there
is a life out there.
Thanks for watching and I must say I am the biggest fan of movies myself, watch it all and look forward to escape for two
hours myself.
Matthias, thanks so much for the interview!
Matthias Hues: See you in the movies.
